Really stuck
von Catesse (AU), Last modified: 2016-07-10, 03:55  like dislike  Spam?
I have spent several hours on this sentence. I can get most of the words, but I cannot fit them together sensibly.
W czasie gdy ostatecznie kryzys ten minał szal zawsze niezachwianie na stanowisku polskiej racji stanu.
The beginning: At the time when the crisis finally passed (?)  [How does "ten" fit in?] ...the mantle passed unflinchingly [?] ... he passed the mantel unflinchingly [?]
Then what??? Time frame is late 1944.
Help in English or German, please.
szal is wrong here  #848611

W czasie gdy ostatecznie kryzys ten minał,
stał zawsze niezachwianie na stanowisku polskiej racji stanu.

In der zeit als letzlich diese kriese verging,
stand er immer unerschütterlich (unschwankend) an der position polnischer staatsräson.

bin mir nicht sicher ob das ende korrekt ist, grammatikalisch?

ten kryzys - diese krise
szal - der Schal
stał - stand, von stehen

Thank you. You have sorted out "minał" and "stał", and that "kryzys ten" is actually "ten kryzys".  (I shall have to remember to watch out for this quirk.) And, on going back to the smudged original I find that it could be either "szal" or "stał". Both z and t are both there, one typed over the other, but the z is clearer. On a Polish typewriter, z and t are neighbours, so this was a typist's error, not corrected on the carbon copy of which I have a photostat.
It does not matter to me whether the German is grammatical or not. With most of the stuff that I am working on now, it is sufficient for me to have a general idea of the meaning, but this is from a critical letter that I need in English, correct and precise, for publication.
Probably, when I have collated the sensitive and complicated pieces that I need in precise translation, I shall have to hire a professional. I cannot afford to compromise my reputation by making a blunder in this respect, and my poor knowledge of Polish is my vulnerable point.
